Types of checking accounts you can open with PNC
PNC offers 3 types of checking accounts:
- Virtual Wallet
- Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend
- Virtual Wallet with Performance Select
Now we show you the main characteristics of each one:
Virtual Wallet
With Virtual Wallet you can avoid monthly commissions in a very simple way since you only have to meet one of the following requirements:
- $500 combined average monthly balance in your Spend and/or Reservemaccounts
- $500 in qualifying mmonthly direct deposits to your Spend account during the statement period
- Account holder is age 62 or over
In the case of not meeting any of these requirements you will have a commission of 7 dollars per month.
The advantages of this virtual Wallet account are that it is very easy to avoid monthly commissions, you have a welcome bonus of 50 dollars when contracting a product, access to high interest rates on CDs.
In the disadvantages we have highlighted that if you do not meet the conditions you have a monthly commission of 7 dollars, withdrawals at non-PNC ATMs have a commission of 3 dollars, wires have high commissions and you need to deposit 25 dollars to open the bill.
Virtual Wallet with Perfomance Spend
It is an account for those with higher monthly incomes since it has a commission of $15 per month unless you meet one of the following requirements:
- $2,000 combined average monthly balance in your Spend and/or Reserve accounts
- $10,000 combined average monthly balance only across PNC Bank consumer deposit accounts
- you have chosen to link.
- $2,000 in qualifying monthly direct deposits to your Spend account during
- the statement period
The advantages offered by this checking account are that you do not have commissions on withdrawals from PNC ATMs and up to two per month at any other ATM, you have a welcome bonus of $200 and access to high-interest CDs.
The disadvantages are that if you stop meeting the conditions you have a monthly fee of $15, transfers have very high fees and overdrafts have a fee of $36 per day.
Virtual Waller with Perfomance Select
This checking account is for those who have high purchasing power because if you do not meet high requirements you will have a commission of $25 per month. To avoid this commission you must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- $5,000 combined average monthly balance in your Spend and up to 7 PNC Bank consumer checking accounts you have chosen to link (including Reserve)
- $25,000 combined average monthly balance across PNC Bank consumer deposit and/or PNCI investment accounts you have chosen to link
- $5,000 in qualifying monthly
The advantages of this checking account are that you have a $400 welcome bonus, access to high interest rates, no fees for using non-PNC ATMs, and transfers in the United States have no fees.
In the disadvantages we highlight that if you do not meet the conditions you have a monthly commission of 25 dollars and that the overdrafts have high interest.
Which account should I choose?
Although these decisions are personal, you should only choose those checking accounts that you know will meet the conditions in the long term. In this way you will always have a checking account without monthly commissions.
If you think that it is going to be difficult to meet the requirements, we recommend the virtual wallet, but if you think that you are going to more than meet the requirements of Virtual Wallet Performance Select, we recommend the latter to be able to make withdrawals and wires without commissions.
